PRESS RELEASE NYPM B-10-2012 29 SEPTEMBER 2012 PHILIPPINES, AUSTRALIA PUSH FOR CLOSER TIES, GREATER COOPERATION
UNITED NATIONS HEADQUARTERS, NY 28 September 2012 The Philippines and Australia both pushed for closer ties and greater cooperation, counting, among others, high level visits that would “demonstrate the special relations between the two countries.” Meeting at the sidelines of the 67 th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Secretary of Foreign Affairs Albert del Rosario and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bob Carr reaffirmed the healthy state of relations of the Philippines and Australia which were based on common interests and shared objectives. The Philippines and Australia will identify areas for greater cooperation across wide areas. Secretary del Rosario described the meeting as “very cordial and constructive” and included an “encouraging and extensive discussions on securing regional and sub-regional peace, order and stability based on the rule of law.” Secretary del Rosario heads the Philippine delegation to the 67 th session of the UNGA and is scheduled to participate in the General Debate.
