05 June 2011 Flag raising ceremonies at the Philippine Center led by Vice President Jejomar Binay kicked off the month-long commemoration of the 113 th anniversary of the declaration of Philippine independence. Vice President Binay was joined by Philippine Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Libran N. Cabactulan, Philippine Ambassador to the United States Ambassador Jose Cuisia, Consul General Mario de Leon, Jr., businesswoman and philanthropist Loida Nicolas Lewis and Philippine Independence Day Council Inc.
