29 April 2011, New York – The Philippines and the Dominica signed today a Joint Communiqué that establishes diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The Joint Communiqué was signed by Ambassador Libran N. Cabactulan, Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the United Nations, and Ambassador Vince Henderson, Permanent Representative of the Commonwealth of Dominica to the United Nations.

In brief remarks, Ambassador Cabactulan told Ambassador Henderson that he looks forward to mutually-beneficial relations between the Philippines and Dominica not only at the government level but through people-to-people exchanges as well.

For his part, Ambassador Henderson expressed hope that the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries would provide an opportunity to explore areas of mutual interest and discussing possible cooperation.

Dominica is an island Caribbean located between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean. Its economy is driven by agriculture and ecotourism. END
