26 April 2011 New York Philippine Permanent Representative Libran N. Cabactulan (seated, center) receives students from the University of Macerata in Italy during a courtesy call at the Philippine Mission to the United Nations in New York. The students from the Italian University participated in the recently-concluded Model United Nations Conference in New York and were assigned to take on the role of the Philippine delegation in 20 simulated UN meetings, including a simulated General Assembly Meeting. In welcoming the students, Permanent Representative Cabactulan underscored the ties shared by the Philippines and Italy and stressed the importance of continually reaffirming the bond between both nations through people-to-people contact. PR Cabactulan encouraged the students to “learn more about the Philippines, its vibrant democracy, its rich heritage and culture, and its partnership with countries like Italy in the pursuit of greater global peace, progress and prosperity.” The University of Macerata’s Dr. Benedetta Barbisan expressed gratitude and appreciation to Permanent Representative Cabactulan for the opportunity to learn more about the work of the Philippines in the United Nations, particularly on migrant workers issues, disarmament and non-nuclear proliferation and the environment.
