26 April 2011 New York Philippine Permanent Representative Libran N. Cabactulan (center) welcomes to the Permanent Mission of the Philippines students from the De La Salle – College of St. Benilde who participated in the recently-concluded Model United Nations Conference in New York. Comprised mainly of Diplomatic and Consular Affairs majors from the College of St. Benilde, the students were assigned to take on the role of the Romanian delegation in 20 simulated UN meetings, including a simulated General Assembly meeting. Permanent Representative Cabactulan underscored the importance of the Model United Nations conference as a “venue for training young minds who will one day take on the task of addressing global issues facing the international community.” Stressing the importance of education and training, PR Cabactulan encouraged the students to “take on every opportunity to learn about Philippine diplomatic work by taking advantage of various resources, including the DFA official website, the Philippine Mission official website and other e-resources.” De La Salle – College of St. Benilde Dean of the School of Multidiscplinary Studies Remedios Lorica thanked Permanent Representative Cabactulan for welcoming the students to the Mission and likewise reiterated the College’s commitment to provide the best opportunities for the students to learn about diplomacy and consular affairs. According to the National Model United Nations website, over 5,000 students from around the world participate in the annual conference. END
