PH MISSION INSTRUCTS UN TO DEPOSIT ALL PEACEKEEPING REIMBURSEMENTS TO PH NATIONAL TREASURY ACCOUNT IN NEW YORK
Ambassador Cabactulan hands over the note verbale from the Philippine Mission to the United Nations which indicates the new payment instructions for future peacekeeping reimbursements.
28 February 2011, New York – To safeguard peacekeeping reimbursements and ensure that Filipino peacekeepers receive their full allowances, the Philippine Permanent Mission to the United Nations has formally instructed the United Nations to deposit all future reimbursements to the bank account of the National Treasury of the Philippines in New York.
The Mission sent a note verbale to the UN Department of Management last February 18 informing the world body of the new account details for the deposit of all future reimbursements.
These include reimbursements for Contingent-Owned Equipment and Troop Cost Allowance in all peacekeeping operations where the Philippines participates.
Ambassador Libran N. Cabactulan also met with United Nations Controller Jun Yamazaki, who is also the Assistant Secretary-General for Program Planning, Budgets and Accounts, to personally hand over the original note verbale and to thank the United Nations for its cooperation in obtaining pertinent documents on UN reimbursements to the Philippines.
Ambassador Cabactulan was joined by Deputy Permanent Representative Carlos D. Sorreta.
The Mission also requested the United Nations to continue furnishing the Philippine Government, through the Mission, with Fund Transfer Remittance Advice for all deposit transactions.
The Mission is also coordinating with the Philippine Consulate General in New York for the transfer of the estimated US$3.3 million in reimbursements for equipment brought by Philippine troops to Haiti that were in the latter’s account.
The funds are to be deposited to the Philippine National Treasury account in New York. END
