25 February 2011 United Nations, New York Dr. Romulo A. Virola, Secretary General of the National Statistical Coordination Board (NCSB), discusses some points on gender statistics data with Dr. Grace Bedako, Chief Statistician of the Ghana Statistical Services, at the sidelines of the 42 nd session of the UN Statistical Commission. Dr. Virola said the Philippines was “way ahead” other countries, particularly in the area of Gender Statistics and that Ghana was looking to integrate and apply some of the Philippines’ best practices in their own programs. The Philippines is Ghana’s partner and peer reviewer for its gender statistics development program. According to Dr. Virola who headed the Philippine delegation, while there is international recognition of Philippine experience and expertise, the NCSB is committed to further develop and improve its capacities. Dr. Virola likewise underscored the importance of statistical data as important building blocks for successful government programs.END
