PRESS RELEASE NYPM 09-2011 25 FEBRUARY 2011 RELIVING THE LEGACY OF THE EDSA PEOPLE POWER REVOLUTION
25 February 2011 NY, New York Ambassador Carlos D. Sorreta, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Philippine Mission to the United Nations, speaks before guests which included Commission on Higher Education Chair Patricia Licuanan (leftmost) and members of the Filipino community during the Philippine Consulate General in New York and the Philippine Mission to the United Nations’ joint commemoration of the 25 th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution. Ambassador Sorreta read the message of former Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto G. Romulo and reflected on the gains achieved since the restoration of full democracy to the Philippines, the sustained commitment of the Philippine Government to serve Filipinos overseas and the continuing responsibility of every Filipino to be the change they want to be. H.E. President Benigno S. Aquino III’s message was read by Consul General Cecilia Rebong who likewise delivered a brief talk on the President’s message. The commemoration included a display of publications on the EDSA People Power and a film showing on the peaceful and bloodless revolution that ousted authoritarian regime and inspired other peoples around the world to aspire for freedom and self-governance.
