RP PEACEKEEPERS IN HAITI RECEIVE UN MEDALS. Members of the Philippine Peacekeeping Contingent serving with the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH) receive their UN peacekeeping medals from Lt. General José Elito Carvalho Siqueira of Brazil, the UN peacekeeping force commander, during recent ceremonies held at the Philippine contingent's headquarters in Port-au-Prince. The ceremonies were also attended by Ambassador Edmond Mulet of Guatemala, the Special Representative of the Secretary General. Photos shows General Carvalho pinning the UN medal on Lt. Col. Johnny Bergado, the Philippine contingent commander and other members of the Philippine contingent and Ambassador Mulet inspecting Philippine peacekeepers. The Philippines has 155 troops serving as the Force Headquarters Support Unit of MINUSTAH since 2004. In addition, there are 41 officers from the Philippine National Police also serving in that country.
