BIOGRAPHY OF THE CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF UZBEKISTAN NARIMAN MAJITOVICH UMAROV

Candidate for the post of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan from Adolat (Justice) Social Democratic Party of Uzbekistan Nariman Umarov was born in 1952 in the city of Tashkent. He is an ethnic Uzbek. In 1974, he graduated from the Tashkent Polytechnic Institute and received academic qualification as an engineer-hydrogeologist. He is a Candidate of Sciences (PhD) in geological and mineralogical field.

Nariman Umarov started his career in 1974 at the Gidroingeo Research Institute, where he served as a senior technician up the ladder to the deputy directorship for scientific research. He was engaged in research in the field of improvement of irrigated lands, participated in the development of hydro-geological forecasts with regard to the drying Aral Sea as well as recommendations for the rational use of groundwater in various sectors of the economy.

In 1997-2009, Umarov worked as the head of State Specialized Inspection of Analytical Oversight under the State Committee for Nature Protection where he headed the development of a unified government system of monitoring the environmental situation.

In 2009-2013, while serving as Chairman of the State Committee for Nature Protection, he was directly involved in the development and implementation of the government environmental program.

Since 2009 Umarov has chaired the ECOSAN International Charitable Fund of Ecology and Health. In 2013, he was elected chairman of the Political Council of Adolat Social Democratic Party. In this capacity, Umarov participated in the development and implementation of a set of measures aimed at substantial consolidation of Adolat parliamentary groups in representative bodies of government.

In 2014, Nariman Umarov was elected member of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, and since 2015 has been Deputy Speaker of the Chamber and led the faction (parliamentary group) of Adolat SDPU.

In 2012, Nariman Umarov was awarded the Mehnat Shuhrati (The Glory of Labor) Order.

He is married and has three children. His spouse H.Khujaeva is a pensioner.
