New York - The United Arab Emirates has called on Iran to make a serious commitment to join the community of nations as an accountable member, and to stop arming, funding and enabling radical, violent and extremist entities.
New York - The UAE has welcomed the adoption of Draft Resolution 70/40 on the Secretary-General's plan of action to prevent violent extremism, saying that the plan needs to address factors that propel extremism, most notably foreign occupation and "State terrorism," and address the issue of accountability for states that compromise the principles of sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of nations.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, welcomed UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and other senior UN officials, humanitarian practitioners, and corporate leaders to International Humanitarian City in Dubai for the launch of the report of the High-Level Panel on Humanitarian Financing. The report, “Too important to fail – addressing the humanitarian financing gap”, was prepared by nine eminent experts from government, the private sector, and civil society. The UN Secretary General commissioned the group to write the report in response to the growing gap between humanitarian needs and resources available. The panel of experts was co-chaired by Kristalina Georgieva, Vice President of the European Commission, and Sultan Nazrin Shah, Ruler of Perek, Malaysia.

These activities included convening experts to further debates on the topic and publishing the findings of those discussions; contributing to UN efforts to support the WPS agenda; and participating in related Open Debates at the Security Council.
The UAE Mission to the UN and the visiting UAE delegation advanced critical issues on the global agenda during UN General Assembly Ministerial Week this fall, as the UN celebrated its 70th anniversary and adopted ambitious new targets for achieving its global mandate.
