Heiko Mass, the UAE reconfirmed its commitment to ending sexual violence in conflict and reviewed its efforts to implement the women, peace and security (WPS) agenda.

NEW YORK – In meetings with senior United Nations (UN) officials, H.E. Dr. Anwar Gargash, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, renewed the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen’s firm commitment to the Stockholm Agreement and to the ongoing peace efforts brokered by Martin Griffiths, the UN Special Envoy for Yemen. H.E. Dr. Gargash underscored that Yemen needs a political solution to resolve the conflict, and that the UAE is working to support that solution.

UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr Anwar Gargash, has categorically rejected a report by the Group of Eminent International and Regional Experts on Yemen, and urged the Human Rights Council (HRC) to instead refocus on providing support to the Government of Yemen in building institutions to protect human rights in the country.

UAE Calls on UN to Hold State-Sponsors of Terrorism Accountable

NEW YORK – On March 28, 2019, the UAE called on the UN to hold Member States accountable for terrorism financing during a UN Security Council Open Debate on combating terrorism financing presided by France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian. Earlier in the meeting, the Council unanimously approved Resolution 2462, introduced by France and co-sponsored by the UAE, requiring Member States to take further steps to prevent and combat terrorism financing. 

UAE Delegation Participates in UN Commission on the Status of Women

NEW YORK – A UAE delegation participated in the 63rd session of the Commission of Status of Women (CSW) at the UN, which concluded on Friday.  The session focused on social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. 

The UAE’s delegation was led by H.E. Ms. Hessa Tahlak, Assistant Undersecretary of the UAE’s Ministry of Community Development, and emphasized that while progress has been made around the world, there is more work to be done.
