UAE Halts Granting of Consultative Status at UN for NGO with Terrorist Ties

NEW YORK, 27th July, 2017 -- In a statement delivered at the United Nations Economic and Social Council, ECOSOC, in New York on Wednesday, the UAE expressed serious concerns with the recommendation of special consultative status for Fondation Alkarama, as the NGO has been designated a terrorist organisation under UAE Federal Law Number 07 of 2014 on Combatting Terrorism Offences.

The statement was delivered ahead of the vote on applications for special consultative status of non-governmental organisations.

NEW YORK – On May 25, 2017, the late United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Afghanistan, His Excellency Mr. Juma Mohammed Abdullah Al Kaabi, was honored with the 2017 Legacy Award posthumously by Women for Afghan Women (WAW) at the organization's annual gala.

WAW’s Legacy Award recognized Ambassador Al Kaabi’s service in Afghanistan, particularly his achievements as a “humanitarian ambassador”, in the presence of several hundred members of the Afghan community in New York, ambassadors and other senior dignitaries.
