UAE urges more regular briefings by Young People at the Security Council

New York - 27 April 2020 - During the open debate of the UN Security Council on the fifth anniversary of the Youth, Peace and Security Agenda, the UAE encouraged the Council to invite more young leaders to brief on a regular basis to reflect on individual experiences while pursuing peace and security in their societies. The UAE also urged the international community to explore ways to increase the meaningful and inclusive participation of youth in peacebuilding efforts. 

OIC Encourages the International Community to Support Palestinian People During COVID-19 Pandemic

New York - 24 April 2020 - On behalf of the Group of Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in its capacity as Chair, the UAE urged the international community to demonstrate global solidarity and take a series of measures to support the Palestinian people cope with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic during the UN Security Council for its quarterly Open Debate on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question.

Visits Were Part of the 2020 Global Women’s Forum in Dubai

ABU DHABI – 20 February 2020 – This week, the United Arab Emirates hosted a group of nine female Ambassadors to the United Nations as part of the Global Women’s Forum Dubai 2020 held by the Dubai Women’s Establishment. The Ambassadors met with senior UAE officials and discussed opportunities to leverage multilateralism and bilateral relationships to promote gender equality across all sectors of society.

TOKYO – H.E. Lana Nusseibeh, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the UAE to the UN, completed a visit to Tokyo, Japan in her capacity as Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Negotiations on Security Council Reform for the 74th Session of the UN General Assembly. The visit was at the invitation of the Japanese government and followed her visit to Beijing, China.

IGN Co-Chairs Hold Meetings in Beijing with Senior Chinese Officials

BEIJING – 22 January 2020 – H.E. Lana Nusseibeh, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations, has concluded a visit to Beijing at the invitation of the Chinese government. The meetings were held in her capacity as the Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Negotiations (IGN) on UN Security Council reform for the 74th Session of the UN General Assembly.  Ambassador Nusseibeh was joined by her Co-Chair, H.E. Joanna Wronecka, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Poland to the UN.

UAE Expresses Support for UN Call to Stop Escalation in Middle East

NEW YORK - H.E. Lana Nusseibeh, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the UAE to the UN, has been reappointed to lead deliberations on how to reform the UN Security Council. The President of the UN General Assembly, H.E. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, announced the reappointment of Ambassador Nusseibeh as Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Negotiations on UN Security Council Reform (IGN) while also appointing as Co-Chair H.E. Joanna Wronecka, Permanent Representative of Poland to the UN, on 4 December 2019.
