The United Arab Emirates has reiterated its firm determination to continue working closely with the International Atomic Energy Agency, IAEA, in enhancing nuclear safety.
NEW YORK – Member States participating in the UN Pledging Conference for Development Activities unanimously elected Ms. Hessa Al Ateibi, Third Secretary of the Permanent Mission of the UAE to the UN, as one of two Vice-Presidents of the 2017 Pledging Conference. As Vice-President, Ms. Al Ateibi could be tasked by the President of the Conference to facilitate the discussions. The Conference lays out funding for 2018 for a number of UN development funds and programs.
NEW YORK – The President of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly, H.E. Mr. Miroslav Lajčák, has appointed H.E. Mrs. Lana Nusseibeh, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the UN, as Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Negotiations on UN Security Council reform.
NEW YORK – In its statement to the UN Security Council during the Open Debate on Children and Armed Conflict, the United Arab Emirates condemned the egregious violations committed by the Houthis, reaffirmed the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen’s commitment to protect civilians and children, and highlighted the Coalition’s sustained efforts to mitigate the impact of the conflict on children.
At the UN Security Council Open Debate on Women, Peace and Security (WPS), the UAE called for the international community to promote the participation of women in peace and security efforts to prevent conflict and promote sustainable peace. The UAE reaffirmed its commitment to advocate for the full participation of women in all aspects of leadership and decision-making.
The UAE has called on the international community to take into consideration the concerns of young people in implementing the urban agenda and to enhance their effective participation in creating sustainable cities and human settlements suitable for all.
The United Arab Emirates has highlighted its intention to make 2020 a unique year for the UAE space sector by launching the first Arab probe into Mars. This would make the country one of only nine around the world seeking to explore the planet.

NEW YORK - At the United Nations Security Council’s Quarterly Open Debate on the Situation in the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates reaffirmed its support for regional and international efforts to push the Middle East Peace Process forward. The UAE lauded the adoption of Security Council resolution 2334 (2016), and the signing of the intra-Palestinian agreement on 12 October 2017 in Cairo as positives steps. Further, the UAE strongly commended the efforts of the Arab Republic of Egypt in the reunification of the Palestinian People and in promoting stability in the region.
The UAE has expressed its unwavering commitment to promoting and protecting human rights within the domestic legal framework, stressing it's commitment to continue serving as a pioneering model for change in the region, as well as an active member of the international community.
