During Tuvalu’s tenure as Chair of the Pacific Small Island Developing States (PSIDS), the group strengthened coordination and ensured that Pacific priorities were consistently articulated across the United Nations system. Key outcomes included the adoption by consensus of the PSIDS General Guidelines, the convening of the inaugural PSIDS Leaders Fonotaga during the UNGA High-Level Week, and a strong, coordinated PSIDS presence across major UN processes, including BBNJ, FfD4, and COP30.

Tuvalu formally handed over the Chairmanship to Fiji at the final PSIDS Ambassadorial Meeting on 23 January 2026, followed by a handover reception with Pacific Ambassadors and technical colleagues.

In his handover remarks, Tuvalu’s Permanent Representative, H.E. Dr Tapugao Falefou, expressed his honour in serving the PSIDS Group and conveyed confidence in the future of PSIDS under Fiji’s leadership. He emphasized that the group would continue advancing shared priorities through cooperation, reaffirming the Pacific way, even amid growing political pressures within the multilateral system.

Tuvalu expresses its sincere appreciation to PSIDS members and partners for the trust and cooperation throughout its term as Chair.
