Ambassador and Permanent Representative H.E Dr Tapugao Falefou delivered Tuvalu’s statement at the First Informal Consultation on the Sea-Level Rise Declaration on 5 March 2026. In his statement, he underscored that sea-level rise poses an existential threat to low-lying atoll nations and emphasized the importance of upholding international law, safeguarding statehood and sovereignty, and ensuring accessible climate finance and adaptation support for the most vulnerable countries.
Tuvalu remains committed to engaging constructively in this process and to working with partners towards an outcome that is principled, practical, and commensurate with the urgency of the challenge.
