“Resilience must never be mistaken for consent to injustice.”

With these words, the Prime Minister of Tuvalu, H.E. Feleti Penitala Teo, addressed the High-Level Meeting commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action, during UNGA80.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed Tuvalu’s commitment to gender equality, noting progress through constitutional reforms, stronger education outcomes for girls, greater participation of women in public service and civil society, and the adoption of a modern National Gender Equity Policy.

He also spoke to the challenges that persist, including limited representation, economic barriers, and the disproportionate impacts of climate change on women.

In closing, he called on the international community to recognize that gender equality and climate justice are inseparable, and reminded us that protecting Tuvaluan women is protecting Tuvalu’s future.
