Her Excellency Eselealofa Apinelu delivered Tuvalu’s statement at the Ministerial Roundtable on Achieving Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Older Women during the 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations Headquarters on 12 March 2026.

H.E. Apinelu highlighted the vital role of older women in sustaining families, communities, and cultural knowledge in Tuvalu. She emphasized the importance of creating meaningful opportunities for older women to participate in decision-making and governance, particularly within traditional institutions like the Falekaupule.

Tuvalu is committed to valuing the leadership, experience, and contributions of older women while ensuring their inclusion in national and community development policies.
