On Day 2 of the IMF/WB Spring Meeting in Washington DC, Amb Dr. Tapugao Falefou, on behalf of Tuvalu, made an intervention at the 16th CVF–V20 Ministerial Dialogue, highlighting the urgent realities facing climate‑vulnerable economies. He underscored how repeated climate shocks continue to erode fiscal space, strain public services, and heighten risks to stability and security across communities in Tuvalu.

Dr. Falefou emphasized the need for a global financial architecture that supports investment‑led growth, concessional financing, and debt instruments that reflect the realities of planetary instability. He said that Tuvalu takes note with great appreciation of the proposed V20–DFI Compact and the integration of methane reduction into national and regional climate strategies.

He concluded by saying that: “Our message is clear: resilience is not a cost but the foundation of long‑term prosperity. For countries like Tuvalu, building resilience is essential to safeguarding our people, our economy, and our future.
