New York, SANA – Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All East John X Yazigi called for finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria, pointing out that what is going on in it is not related to the Syrians’ logic and ideology.
In a press conference at the United Nations (UN) headquarters following his separate meetings with UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson, Russia’s Permanent Representative to UN Vitaly Churkin and with a number of UN senior officials, Patriarch Yazigi said that the officials he met affirmed that they will help in solving the crisis in Syria, hoping that their words will be coupled with deeds.
” From where the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist organization is getting money and weapons and who supports it? ” He wondered.
Patriarch Yazigi warned those who support the ISIS that one day it will use its weapons against them.
He reiterated that the true Islam rejects these takfiri organizations.
The Patriarch expressed the unity of Christians and Muslims, asserting that Christians’ message in the Middle East is a message of peace.
He criticized the international community’s silence towards the abduction of Syriac Orthodox and Greek Orthodox Archbishops of Aleppo, Yohanna Ibrahim and Paul Yazigi, who were kidnapped by the armed terrorist organizations in Aleppo countryside two years ago.
Patriarch Yazigi stressed the importance of coexistence in building safe and peaceful homelands.
