Mission's Activities at the United Nations



The Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Swaziland to the United Nations is actively participating  in all aspects of the United Nations Conferences, Deliberation from the Committee level and all the way to the Plenary Session. among them are:

1.      Membership of two UN Subsidiaries Bodies   - The Kingdom of Swaziland has been elected into the membership of two Subsidiary Bodies of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). Swaziland will serve as a member of these bodies for a period of four (4) years from 2010 to 2013 and the membership of the CSW will expire at the end of its 58th Session in 2014. The two (2) subsidiary bodies are as follows:
a)       Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)  
b)       Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND).
2.       Chairmanship of the African Group  The Kingdom of Swaziland had assumed Chairmanship of the African Group for the months of June and July, 2009 in New York. At the helm of its term was His Excellency Ambassador Joel M. Nhleko, who steered the group on the following major issues: 
a)       Stock-taking on United Nations Security Council Reform;
b)       African Union- European Union Extended Troika matters and Non-Paper;
c)       Resolution on African Union-United Nations Co-operation
d)       The Principle of Universal Jurisdiction
e)       Candidatures for various UN Bodies
f)         Secretary-General’s Forum on advancing Global Health in the Face of Crisis
g)       Implementation of the Declaration of Commitment on HIV/AIDS; 
h)       Interactive Thematic Dialogue on Energy Efficiency, Energy Conservation
i)         New Renewable Sources of Energy
j)         The Responsibility to Protect.
3.      Meetings  - During its Chairmanship, meetings  at Ambassadorial Level were chaired by the          Permanent Representative, and the meetings at Expert Level were chaired by the Counsellor
