Business Visa

Foreign nationals traveling to Sri Lanka on engaging following circumstances are required to obtain Business Visa.
  • Business meetings & negotiations
  • Conferences, workshops & seminars

Short-term Business Visa (30 days)
Business ETA facility is opened to potential applicants in addition to the existing facility of obtaining Business ETA from Sri Lanka Overseas Missions and the Head Office of the Department of Immigration & Emigration, Colombo.
 
Foreign nationals traveling Sri Lanka and stay for less than 30 days on business purposes will be granted visa for 30 days with multiple entries. In this case, the applicant or a third party on behalf of the applicant can apply for the visa by submitting the ETA application to the Consular Division of this Mission or online via the Official ETA website (www.eta.gov.lk/slvisa).
 
If you are unable to submit the online application due to technical errors, you may submit your application to the nearest Sri Lankan Diplomatic Mission / Embassy with required documents as follows;
 
Documents required
  • Duly filled ETA application (download)
  • Valid passport (The validity of the passport must be at least six months beyond the date of entry into Sri Lanka)
  • Two recent photographs (standard photo format)
  • Return air ticket
  • Letter of invitation from the host company in Sri Lanka. A copy of the letter should be directly sent to the Consular Division of this Mission. (Photographs are not acceptable)
  • Letter from the Organization in the United States
  • Copy of the bank statement showing adequate funds for your stay in Sri Lanka and for the payment of your return passage out of Sri Lanka. (This requirement is not applicable to Sri Lankan Americans.)

Long-term Business Visa (More than 30 days)
Foreign nationals traveling Sri Lanka and stay for a period of more than 30 days (and less than 90 days) on business purposes will be granted visa for maximum 90 days with single/double/multiple entries. In this case, the applicant or a third party on behalf of the applicant can apply for the visa by submitting the ETA application to the Consular Division of this Mission.
 
All the applications for Long-term business visas should submit to the nearest Sri Lankan Diplomatic Mission and applications though the official ETA website is not facilitated.

  • Duly filled ETA application (download)
  • Valid passport (The validity of the passport must be at least six months beyond the date of entry into Sri Lanka)

Reciprocal Visa Scheme for U.S. Nationals (05 years)
On the basis of reciprocity between the U.S.A. and Sri Lanka, the U.S. Nationals are granted visa to Sri Lanka for maximum of 05 years with multiple entries on business purposes.

  • Duly filled Multiple Entry Visa application (download)
  • Duly filled ETA application (download)
  • Valid passport (The validity of the passport must be at least six months beyond the date of entry into Sri Lanka)
  • Two photographs (standard photo format)
  • Letter of invitation from the host company in Sri Lanka. A copy of the letter should be directly sent to the Consular Division of this Mission. (Photographs are not acceptable)
  • Letter from the Organization in the United States

Note: If the passport on which the visa/ETA has been issued expires before the visa, the new passport should be submitted to the Mission for the issuance of a new ETA. This will be done at no cost to the applicant.
 
Submission of applications
You can submit the application to the consular division of this Mission by post or by hand. The Consular Division is open from Monday to Friday between 09 am to 01 pm EST. The physical and mailing address is as follows:

Payment Options
Payments should be done at this Mission by cash / money orders / bank drafts /cheques.
Money orders / Certified cheques should be made payable to the “Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations, New York”.
Card payments are not acceptable.
 
Return of the documents
You will be informed once the visa is processed and the passport is ready to collect. You may provide the cash receipt issued in order to collect the passport.
 
If you are unable to collect the passport personally you should authorize your representative in writing to collect the passport on your behalf. The representative should provide an authorization letter along with your current passport, cash receipt, and his / her photo identification.
 
At your request, your passport may be returned to you by post.
 
If the return of the documents is desired by post, applicants in the United States may choose one of the following options and make payment in addition to the application fee:
  • Domestic Mailing Fee - Federal Express (FedEx)      – USD 20.00 (within U.S.A.)
  • International Mailing Fee - Federal Express (FedEx) – Relevant Country Rate
This Mission is not responsible for any documents lost in the post.
