Ceremonial Commencement of Work for the year 2018

The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations, with the participation of its staff, conducted a special ceremony at the Mission premises this morning (2nd January) to commence the new work year.

The event commenced with the Lighting of the Oil Lamp by H.E. Dr. Rohan Perera, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN, followed by the singing of the national anthem. Two minutes of silence was observed for the lives to commemorate the war heroes and all victims of conflict.

The Mission staff took an Oath of Public Service to affirm their commitment to serving the people, while emphasizing the commitment to food and agriculutre development, which is a focal point of the Sri Lankan governments work during the new year. H.E. Dr. Perera proceeded to address the gathering, reinforcing the dedication of the staff of the Mission in fulfilling its work in order to meet the needs of the Sri Lankan community and Sri Lanka as a whole, with a special regard to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The ceremonial event concluded with a traditional breakfast.
