Briefings on the Draft Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT)

The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka organized two briefings for a representative group of UN Ambassadors on the 8th and 9th of October to provide momentum for the CCIT negotiations during the forthcoming 70th session of the UN General Assembly.

H.E. Eden Charles, Dy. Permanent Representative of Trinidad and Tobago and the Chair of the Sixth (Legal) Committee made introductory remarks and H.E. Dr. Rohan Perera, Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka, and Chair of the Working Group of the Sixth Committee on International Terrorism provided an overview of the current status of negotiations on the CCIT. Many participants expressed support for the early conclusion of the negotiations and reiterated the need for political will to find solutions for the outstanding issues.

The Legal Committee plenary debate on Measures to Eliminate International Terrorism commences on Monday, 12th October.
