Ceremonial Commencement of Work for the year 2019 at the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the UN

The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations, with the participation of its staff, conducted a special ceremony at the Mission premises this morning (2nd January) to mark the commencement of the new work year. 

The event began with the lighting of the oil lamp by H.E. Dr. Rohan Perera, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN, and all diplomatic staff, followed by the singing of the national anthem. Two minutes silence was observed to commemorate the war heroes and others who sacrificed their lives for the motherland.

The Mission staff took an Oath of Public Service to affirm their commitment to serving the people, while emphasizing the economic empowerment of the nation through accelerated development ensuring benefits to every citizen and for future generations, which is a focal point of the Sri Lankan governments’ work during the new year. H.E. Dr. Perera proceeded to address the gathering, highlighting the continued dedication of the staff of the Mission in fulfilling its work in order to meet the needs of the Sri Lankan community and Sri Lanka as a whole, with special emphasis on being an efficient interlocutor between the government agencies and the United Nations system, as Sri Lanka integrates the Sustainable Development Goals into the national agenda.

The ceremonial event concluded with a traditional breakfast.
