Samoa Establishes Diplomatic Relations with Jamaica

Samoa and Jamaica has formally established diplomatic relations with effect from 26 April 2022.  The Joint Communique was signed between H.E. Fatumanava-o-Upolu III Dr. Pa’olelei Luteru, Permanent Representative of Samoa to the United Nations and H.E. Mr. Brian Wallace, Permanent Representative of Jamaica to the United Nations, at the Permanent Mission of Jamaica in New York.

Samoa Appointed a member of the Multidimensional Vulnerability Index (MVI) High-Level Panel of Experts

Samoa has been appointed by the President of the UN General Assembly, H.E. Abdulla Shahid, as one of the 12 members of the High-Level Panel on the MVI.

The Panel is tasked with finalising work on the MVI by December 2022. The Panel will be co-chaired by the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, H.E. Mr Gaston Browne, and the former Prime Minister of Norway, H.E. Ms Erna Solberg. Other members of the Panel were drawn from the Private sector, civil societies and acadamia.

The President of French Polynesia, H.E. Mr. Edouard Fritch, visited the Permanent Mission of Samoa to United Nations on Tuesday 5 October 2021. President Fritch was accompanied by Mr. Manuel Terai, Permanent Secretary for International Affairs and Mr. Engel Raygadas, Deputy Permanent Secretary.
