Date:
Monday, 18 September 2017

H.E. Antonio Guterres has been instrumental in his UN Reform Agenda since he became the United Nations Secretary-General late 2016. one of his key initiatives came about in the form of the "Voluntary Compact Agreement" between himself on behalf of the United Nations and member states that sign the agreement.

this Compact agreement signifies a strong commitment from the UN in its reform agenda as well as the input from member states that have their personnel serving in peacekeeping missions all over the world. It addresses the problem of sexual abuse and exploitation that occurs within peacekeeping missions. It supports the United Nations zero tolerance policy on the prohibition against sexual exploitationand abuse. The Secretary-General noted in his statement "Let us leave here with an unmistakable message:  We will not tolerate anyone committing or condoning sexual exploitation and abuse.  We will not let anyone cover up these crimes with the UN."

On the 18th September 2017, Samoa joined a number of states in signing the voluntary compact agreement signalling its support towards one of the great initiatives on the UN Reform Agenda by H.E Antonio Guterres.
