The High level meeting to review the progress of SAMOA Pathway was held 27th September 2019 at the UN Headquarters in New York.  The President of the General Assembly, UN Secretary General and the Prime Ministers of Fiji and Ireland spoke at the opening.  They also invited a youth representative from Papua New Guinea and Hawaii-born “Aquaman” star, who is of Native Hawaiian descent, Jason Momoa to address the meeting.  “Island nations contribute the least to this disaster, but are made to suffer the weight of its consequences,” he said.

Prime Minister Motley from Barbados made a plea on behalf of Small Island Developing States, urging for progress to be made. The opening segment was followed by two multi stakeholder Roundtables, with the first session on ‘Progress, Gaps and Challenges’ co-moderated by the Prime Ministers of Samoa and Norway. The second session focused on ‘priorities, solutions, and the way forward’ and the meeting concluded with the adoption of the political declaration recognizing progress and urging further action on the SAMOA Pathway implementation.
