On Thursday, 06 August 2020, two (2) high-school student teams from the Philippines will compete as finalists at the 2020 Spellman High Voltage Electronics Clean Tech Competition with the theme “Reducing Individual Impacts.”

 

The two teams are (i) Pisay CRC Innovators from the Philippine Science High School Caraga Region Campus, Agusan del Norte,  with the project title: AQUA: Automated Conservation of Water Quality Unleased in Aquatic Systems and (ii) Turbangsi from the Philippine Science High School - Main Campus, Metro Manila with the project title: Development of a Wind Turbine Blade Design based on Flying Fish Fin.

The Filipino student teams are among only 20 finalist teams selected from more than 240 entries, and are expected to virtually present their solutions to the world’s current and future climate, energy, environmental and health challenges using clean technology.

The public is invited to view the competition and support of the Filipino students and other student finalists as they present their innovative ideas and solutions on the use of clean technology.

“With the worldwide pandemic, STEM studies are more critical and necessary than ever before. Our inspiring student teams have labored through many challenges to complete their research and projects. While many science competitions were cancelled, we decided to move forward to demonstrate to the world that dedicated students can overcome challenges and show leadership,” said Dr. Ray Ann Havasy, Executive Director of the Center for Science Teaching and Learning (CSTL), the host of the competition.  

The Spellman High Voltage Electronics Clean Tech Competition aims to promote STEM Education. It is hosted by CSTI and sponsored by Hauppauge, a Long Island-based Spellman HV Electronics company involved in high voltage technology in the medical, industrial and scientific fields. -END
