On 12 July, the Order of Malta Mission to the United Nations in New York organized a reception to celebrate many of the young interns currently attending the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.
The event was attended by over 50 interns, representing 15 nations, including the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Nigeria, Cambodia, and many others. In his brief remarks, Dr. Paul Beresford-Hill, Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta Permanent Observer Mission to the United Nations, said:
Our gathering this evening is really about two things. Firstly we want to thank you for the hard work and commitment that you are putting forward at your respective Missions to support the work of the United Nations, particularly in the critically important field of Sustainable Development, an area that is of great importance to the Order of Malta in our humanitarian outreach to over 120 nations throughout the world. But we also want to acknowledge you as the future diplomats, aid workers, civil servants and possibly future ministers and ambassadors, and to underscore the importance of the contribution of young adults like yourselves to the dialogue positing solutions to the world’s problems.
