Worlwide | Dag Hammarskjöld Library
The United Nations Digital Library (UNDL) is now available!
A result of the successful collaboration between the Dag Hammarskjöld Library and the United Nations Office at Geneva Library, the platform provides access to UN-produced materials in digital format, free of charge. At the same time, it is a major service for the long-term preservation of the Organization’s collective memory, incorporating the latest relevant international standards.
The United Nations Digital Library is built on open source technology developed by the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). For the first time, a digital system has the potential to bring together the diverse institutional heritage of the United Nations and preserve it for future generations.
The launch of the new system - which offers easy access to documents, maps, and voting data, as well as non-sales publications - will help citizens and researchers of the world find the UN information they need, quickly and accurately.
It provides one global point of access to UN information – current and historical. Content is updated daily. The UNDL will offer UN Libraries, as well as UN departments and offices worldwide the ability to collaboratively collect, organize, preserve, communicate, and share the Organization’s digital content from one central portal.
Developed on open architecture, it can considerably enhance the impact of the UN’s digital output by connecting with a plethora of search engines and databases and incorporating sophisticated metrics.
