Press Release

Foreign Secretary Mr. Bharat Raj Paudyal attended this afternoon the High-level Event on “Democracy Delivers” held on the margins of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.

Speaking at the event, Foreign Secretary Paudyal stated that the Constitution of Nepal recognizes all universally accepted democratic principles, guarantees proportional representation, and participation of all sections of society in national life. He stated that with the political issues settled, our fight now is against poverty, underdevelopment, and backwardness.  For that, Nepal’s priorities include modernizing agriculture, expediting infrastructure development, tapping the vast hydropower potentials, materializing tourism potentials, and developing human resources, he added.

The Foreign Secretary highlighted the enabling environment created for private sector and the strong legal and policy framework put in place to protect both domestic and foreign investment. He also touched on the sustainable and climate-resilient development pathways taken by Nepal.

Nepal believes that ‘democracy delivers’ to the people because we focus on ‘tri-directional’ outcomes of democracy, i.e., peace, human rights, and development, he underscored.

Foreign Secretary Paudyal arrived in New York yesterday. This morning, he attended the opening session of the General Debate of the UN General Assembly.
