Press Release-Nepal Army Day and the 62nd anniversary of Nepal-UN partnership in peacekeeping

The Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations organized today a programme to celebrate Nepal Army Day and marked the sixty-two years of Nepal-UN relations in peacekeeping.

Speaking at the programme, Ambassador Mr. Amrit Bahadur Rai, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations, underlined the contribution of Nepali Army for defending national sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as nation building at home and promoting peace abroad. Stating that Nepal is the fourth largest troops and police contributor to the UN peacekeeping at present, Ambassador Rai reiterated Nepal's unflagging commitment to work with the United Nations by contributing peacekeepers for the promotion of peace and stability in the world.

Mr. Atul Khare, Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support at the United Nations, commended dedication, professionalism, performance and capability of Nepali peacekeepers. He also stated that Nepal is a reliable partner for the United Nations in its peacekeeping endeavours.

Earlier, Brigadier General Padam Bahadur Singh welcomed the guests which included diplomats and military personnel from different countries, UN staff and members of the Nepali community.
