On 4 November, H.E.Mr.Sukhbold Sukhee, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the United Nations, delivered statement at the plenary meeting of the Third Committee of the UNGA 70 on Promotion and protection of human rights: Implementation of human rights instruments.

While commending efforts of the UN and its human rights institutions on the promotion and protection of human rights worldwide, Ambassador Sukhbold introduced recent developments in the national human rights field to the UN Member States. 

In his speech, the Ambassador highlighted Mongolia's recent ratifications of the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, the Third Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on a Communications Procedure and the Minimata Convention on Mercury.

The ambassador also informed about the Parliament's consideration of the revised drafts of the Criminal Code, Law on the Human Rights Commission, the Law on the Rights of the Child, the Law on the Protection of the Child, the Law on Domestic Violence and the Labor Law with the aim to integrate treaty provisions into the national legislation.

While mentioning the successful review of the Second National Report of the UPR in May 2015 in Geneva and the Ambassador highlighted importance of  increasing awareness and providing dialogue between relevant stakeholders in the implementation of the UPR recommendations. 

At the closing, H.E.Mr.Sukhbold Sukhee reiterated the Government of Mongolia’s commitment to the full and effective implementation of international human rights treaties and conventions to which it has acceded and thanked sincerely all fellow member states for supporting at the recent HRC elections for the period of 2016-2018, demonstrating confidence in Mongolia's capabilities to serve as Member of the UN HRC.
