AMBASSADOR DR PERKS M. LIGOYA ATTENDS THE BAPA+40 IN BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA

Ambassador Dr Perks M. Ligoya took part in The Second High-level United Nations Conference on South-South Cooperation that was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from the 20th to 22nd March 2019.

Acknowledging the need to build up and further revitalize the South-South cooperation, the United Nations General Assembly decided by resolution 71/244 of 2 February 2017, to convene a high-level United Nations conference on South-South cooperation The conference also marks the fortieth anniversary of the adoption of the Buenos Aires Plan of Action for Promoting and Implementing Technical Cooperation among developing countries (TCDC).

The conference main subject was about among other topics, how the South-South cooperation will bring opportunities to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted on  September 2015 at an UN Summit, the 15 years goal for the agenda was to encourage countries to mobilize efforts to end all forms of poverty, fight inequalities and tackle climate change, while ensuring that no one is left behind.

The South-South cooperation is viewed by the General Assembly as a major part of international cooperation for development, the cooperation offers developing countries such as Malawi feasible opportunities to individually and collectively push for sustainable economic growth and development,
