Despite worldwide efforts to increase water services, around 800 million people still lack safe drinking water.
And a shocking number of the world's population lives without adequate sanitation facilities.
Improper waste disposal and clean water scarcity impede economic and social development, as germs and deadly viruses spread much more easily where there is a lack of sanitary and hygienic practices.
Clean water and sanitation have a major impact on our lives. When we have access to these resources, we are less vulnerable to diseases and overall healthier. It means that we can go to work and school and devote more time to hobbies and other life activities.
Our new reading list for SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation details the importance of clean water and safe sanitary practices. The list also includes stories of how people have helped others gain access to proper services and teaches children how they can make a difference in their own lives to conserve water.
We encourage you to read them with your children and hope it will inspire them to take action towards ensuring clean water and sanitation for all.
Visit the SDG Book Club website to learn more about what you can do to become a part of the journey to children’s growth.
