In the framework of the Chairmanship of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) for the year of 2016, the Permanent Mission of the Kyrgyz Republic has submitted to the consideration of the UN General Assembly a draft resolution (A/71/L.5) untitled «Cooperation between the United Nations and the Commonwealth of Independent States». After the consideration, the resolution was adopted by the General Assembly by consensus.
During the presentation of the draft resolution, the Permanent Representative of the Kyrgyz Republic M.Moldoisaeva noted that the Commonwealth of the Independent States was founded in 1991 and this year celebrating its 25th anniversary. Main goals of CIS is development of mutually beneficial cooperation between the member states in political, economic, humanitarian, cultural, environmental and other fields.
Permanent Representative of Kyrgyzstan has informed the General Assembly about the statements which were adopted by the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth in September this year in Bishkek and which were circulated as the UN General Assembly's official documents.
M.Moldoisaeva also informed about the cooperation between the CIS and UN agencies, especially on progressive development of engagements between the CIS Executive Committee with a number of UN specialized agencies, and noted that the United Nations is not able to counter modern threats alone. It is important to increase collective approaches of cooperation of UN with regional and sub regional organizations, which have a more delicate understanding of the situation and the overall domestic political context in the field.
