The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade congratulates Senator the Hon. Pearnel Charles Jr. on his recent appointment as Minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation (MEGJC).
Minister Charles Jr., had responsibility for the Diaspora and other regional portfolios at the Foreign Ministry, served as Minister of State since April 2018.

LETTER TO JAMAICA REGARDING THE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF JAMAICAN EMBASSY IN CARACAS

Dear Fellow Jamaicans,
To facilitate public understanding of the issues related to the temporary closure of the Jamaican Embassy in Caracas, I feel it important to respond to the ill-informed and irresponsible comments made by the Opposition Spokesperson regarding the Ministry’s announcement. In trying to score political points, Ms Hanna has done a great disservice to her country and our Foreign Service.

During a Courtesy Call with Irish Ambassadors, State Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the Hon. Pearnel Charles Jr. expressed the hope that the Post Cotonou framework, which will define the rules of engagement for the African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States and the European Union (EU), following the expiration of the Cotonou Partnership Agreement in 2020, will redound to the region’s benefit.

Former Deputy Director of the Jamaica Tourist Board, Jason Keats Hall has been appointed to head Jamaica’s Mission in Mexico. Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith made the announcement in a statement on Tuesday, August 21.
The Ambassador-designate, whose appointment takes effect in September 2018, replaces Ambassador Sandra Grant-Griffiths, who has been reassigned to Kingston as the Chief of State Protocol.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade has confirmed that an Italian family, Mr. Cristian Cecal, his Jamaican-born wife, Dawna Munroe and their nine-year-old daughter Crystal, who was also born in Jamaica, were sadly amongst the 43 casualties of a collapsed bridge in Genoa, Italy on August 15.

JOHNSON SMITH EXTENDS CONDOLENCES TO UK AND ITALY

Senator the Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith today stated that Jamaica expresses its deep concern at reports of a suspected terrorist attack on innocent pedestrians in the vicinity of Westminster in London, as well as reports of an increasing death toll resulting from a collapsed bridge in Genoa, Italy. She extended sincere sympathies to those injured and to the families and loved ones of persons who lost their lives in the separate unrelated incidents.
