STATIN TO CONDUCT HOUSEHOLD EXPENDITURE SURVEY

KINGSTON, Jan. 26 (JIS):

            The Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) will be conducting a household expenditure survey (HES) from February 6, 2017 to February 2018 to obtain information on the goods and services purchased by private households.

            This is being done in order to determine the general pattern of expenditure throughout the economy.

            Project Manager for the HES, Shelly-Ann Chambers, told JIS News that goods and services include food, education, health, transportation, recreation and communication.

KINGSTON, Jan. 6 (JIS):                                 

Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, says uniformity in pay scales across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) will be a key feature of a transformed public sector.

He points out that 100 pay grades and scales currently being used in the sector create confusion, inequity and opportunities for arbitrage.

 The Prime Minister was giving a policy statement on the public-sector transformation process, now under way, during a meeting at the Office of the Prime Minister on January 5.

US$100,000 PURSE FOR JAMAICA OPEN GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP

KINGSTON, Jan. 6 (JIS):

Local and international golf pros will compete for a US$100,000 purse at the 50th staging of the 2017 Jamaica Open Golf Championship.

The tournament, being organised by the Jamaica Golf Association, is slated to take place from January 11 to 14 at the Half-Moon Golf Course in Montego Bay.

Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange, welcomed the staging of the event.

            Six judges have been sworn in to serve in the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court, with effect from January 9.

            The judges are Hon. Justice Carol Edwards to the Court of Appeal; Her Honour Sonia Bertram Linton, His Honour Dale Palmer, Her Honour Calys Wiltshire and Her Honour Lisa Palmer Hamilton as puisne judges in the Supreme Court. Her Honour Yvonne Brown has been appointed Master-in-Chambers of the Supreme Court.

PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS NEEDED TO FUND PROJECTS IN HEALTH SECTOR – CMO

KINGSTON, Jan. 6 (JIS):

            Chief Medical Officer in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Winston De La Haye, is underscoring the need for public-private partnerships to provide funding for important projects pertaining to public health.                                      

            Among these is the Jamaica Health and Lifestyle Survey (JHLS) III, now under way, which provides data on chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs).

The Government is providing funding for JHLS III at a cost of approximately

$95 million.
