Press Statement by Co-Initiators of the Statement of Support to the Secretary-General’s Appeal for Global Ceasefire

The co-initiators of the Statement of Support to the Secretary-General’s appeal for Global Ceasefire namely Bangladesh, Ecuador, Egypt, Jamaica, Japan, Malaysia, Oman, Senegal, Slovenia, and Sweden today virtually met the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to officially hand over the Statement, which was released on 22 June 2020. The co-initiators also reiterated their continued support to the appeal and thank all signatories for joining the Statement.

ISA Legal and Technical Commission and Finance Committee open remote meetings for the second part of the 26th session

The second part of the 26th Session of the Legal and Technical Commission (LTC) and the Finance Committee of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) opened online today. This is the first time ever, that the expert members of the technical bodies have met remotely.

The Permanent Mission of Jamaica to the United Nations presents its compliments to all Permanent Missions and Permanent Observer Missions to the United Nations and, with reference to previous Notes, has the honour to inform that the Government of Jamaica has reopened its borders for the controlled re-entry by air of Jamaicans overseas with effect from 1st June, 2020 and will reopen to international air travel on 15th June, 2020.

Twenty-sixth session of the International Seabed Authority (Part 2) postponed to October 2020

The International Seabed Authority (ISA) today announced that the second part of the 26th session of ISA initially scheduled to be held in July 2020 will be postponed, due to the COVID-19 epidemic. The session will instead take place in a reduced format in Kingston, Jamaica from 7 to 16 October 2020, with meetings of some of the technical bodies convened remotely starting from July 2020.

The Permanent Mission of Jamaica to the United Nations presents its compliments to all Permanent Missions and Permanent Observer Missions to the United Nations and, with reference to previous Notes, has the honour to inform that the Government of Jamaica has decided, in light of the evolving situation concerning COVID-19, to continue to extend the closure of its borders until 31st May, 2020. Consequently, no person shall be permitted to enter Jamaica.
