Passing of Ambassador the Honourable Herbert S. Walker, OJ, CD

We regret to advise that  Ambassador the Honourable Herbert S. Walker, OJ, CD, passed away peacefully on the 28th August 2017.

 

Ambassador Walker had a long and distinguished career. He worked with the Development Secretariat in Guyana between 1950 and 1957. When he returned to Jamaica, he worked with the Ministries of Trade and Industry; Tourism and Finance until 1972 when he was  appointed as Jamaica’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Agencies in Geneva. In 1977, he returned to Jamaica and was appointed the fourth Governor of the Bank of Jamaica where he served until 1981.

 

Ambassador Walker was appointed as Jamaica’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom from 1981 to 1988, and in 1989, he became the country’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, New York, which position he held until 1993 when he retired from the public service.

 

A Service of Thanksgiving for the life of Ambassador Walker will be held at the Church of St Margaret, 167 Old Hope Road, Kingston 6 on Tuesday, 17th October 2017.  Further details to be provided.
