CARICOM REPORT TO BE TABLED IN THE HOUSE IN JANUARY

Date:
Wednesday, 06 December 2017

KINGSTON, Dec. 6 (JIS):

Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, says the final report from the CARICOM Review Commission will be brought to Parliament in January 2018.

“The CARICOM Report is still before Cabinet, and it will be addressed as one of the first reports early next year. In fact, I want to take it in the second sitting of Parliament next year,” the Prime Minister told the House of Representatives on December 5.

In a Statement updating the House on the activities of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART), which was deployed to Dominica in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, Mr. Holness noted that a Subcommittee of Parliament, which has been assigned to review the Report, is now in the process of doing so.

According to a release from the Office of the Prime Minister in March, Mr. Holness was presented with the final report from former Prime Minister and Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Bruce Golding.

The Commission comprised 17 members, along with ex-officio and support staff, from a wide cross section of sectors in Jamaica, including business, academia, the private sector and trade unions.

The Commission met with several stakeholder groups, including former Prime Ministers in the CARICOM region as well as former Secretaries General of the regional body.

In addition, the CARICOM Review Commission held focus group sessions with Jamaicans across several parishes.
