MONTEGO BAY, Nov. 27 (JIS):

Minister of State in the Ministry of National Security, Senator the Hon. Pearnel Charles Jr., has charged the latest batch of correctional officers to carry out their duties with integrity.

“I emphasise the importance of integrity and that it is something that you must guard with care. I encourage you also to aim to be the best at what you do. Aim high and do not settle for the ordinary,” he said.

He was addressing the passing-out parade for Batch 75 of the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) held at the Carl Rattray Training College in Runaway Bay, St. Ann, on Thursday (November 24).

Senator Charles Jr. congratulated the graduates on their achievements.

“Today you have proven to your trainers, your colleagues, your families, your community and yourselves, that you have what it takes to be successful,” he said.

He urged them to always strive for excellence as they work to transform the lives of inmates. He noted that the Ministry is focused on “purposeful rehabilitation for successful reintegration.”

“Live up to your potential and take the investment that has been made in you by the country, by your trainers and by your families and build a career that will contribute to the transformation of the DCS and the transformation of the lives of the persons that will be placed in your care,” he said.

“In front of you is a great opportunity to serve in one of the most crucial and critical areas of public service, working to rehabilitate fellow citizens, who have committed crimes…I call on you to remember the importance of being professionals,” Senator Charles Jr. added.
