Global Agreement to Harmonize UN Banking Services in Africa

An important step in the harmonization of United Nations’ banking services in Africa was taken on 26 May 2016 in New York with the signing of the Master Banking Agreement between the UN Secretariat, UNDP, UNICEF and Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, a pan-African banking conglomerate with banking and treasury operations in 36 African countries.

The UN's first-ever World Humanitarian Summit will take place next Monday and Tuesday, 23-24 May, in Istanbul Turkey. The Summit aims to engage world leaders and mobilize political will to advance global action on some of the greatest challenges of our time, including displacement, the rising impact of natural disasters and climate change, and the perennial gap between the scale of needs and the resources available to meet them.

Enslaved people carried with them many valuable skills and useful knowledge that helped to build the societies in which they found themselves during the Transatlantic Slave Trade. In many cases, experts told participants at an event on “The Musical Journey of the African Diaspora” held on 14 April 2016 at New York Headquarters, the rhythms and musical traditions they brought with them from their homeland were essential to their survival and maintaining their identity.

In March 2016 on the International Day of Happiness, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, appointed Red from the Angry Birds as the Honorary Ambassador for Green.  The campaign, featuring the globally renowned mobile game character, encourages young people to take action on climate change and ensure a sustainable and happier future for all.
