Honourable Hugh Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana delivered a statement via video messae at the fifty-fifth session of the Commission on Population and Development (CPD), being convened at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

The Honourable Minister underscored the Government of Guyana’s commitment to executing people-centered development policies within the framework of Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS2030).

He noted that Guyana’s developmental plans are premised on the three fundamental pillars of sustainable development – social well-being, sustained economic growth and environmental preservation.

In highlighting a few policy initiatives of the Government, the Honourable Minister underlined the critical importance of a functioning food system to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty; the importance of urbanization as a link to sustainable development, particularly through Guyana's 'Dream Realised' programme; and education as a tool to sustain Guyana’s expansion. Minister Todd further pointed out that empowering women and girls is a high priority for the Government of Guyana.
