His Excellency Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali spoke about the impactful role of multilateralism in resolving global challenges, during his address to the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) today in New York.

He highlighted difficulties faced at the national, regional and international levels and proposed solutions, especially those that promote fairness at all levels.

“Global inequality is linked to global security and global security is linked to the prosperity of all humanity.”

President Ali also spoke about the need to invest more in food security, education and about putting systems in place to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. He used Guyana’s drive through its Low Carbon Development Strategy as an example and highlighted plans in place for the sustainable development of the country.

“We are committed to building a Guyana that addresses issues of food security, climate change, energy security and inequalities within our country and the region. Under the banner of ‘One Guyana’, my Government has embarked on many initiatives to help bridge the gaps of inequality and access.”

President Ali also called for improved global relations and thanked countries who have already expressed support for Guyana’s candidature for non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council.
