Thursday, 30 April 2020

It is with deep regret that I inform you that Mr. Rafiqul Alam Khan, staff member of the Executive Secretariat of the Group of 77, passed away yesterday from complications related to the COVID-19 disease.
Mr. Khan served with dedication and commitment as Administrative Officer in the G-77 Secretariat for over thirty years. Before joining the Secretariat, he was a member of the Foreign Service of his native Bangladesh and held postings at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Moscow and at the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York.
His strong work ethic and institutional memory made him an invaluable source of knowledge within the Secretariat, which was acknowledged and appreciated by the current and previous Chairmanships as well as by the Executive Secretary and his team. We will all miss Rafiqul for both his professional and human qualities.
As Chair and on behalf of the member States of the G-77 and China, I will convey to the family and to the Executive Secretariat our deepest condolences and expression of gratitude for Mr. Khan’s long and distinguished service to the Group. Messages of condolences may be conveyed to the family through the G-77 Executive Secretariat.

The late Mr. Rafiqul Alam Khan, staff member of the Executive Secretariat of the Group of 77
