Official Launch of the EPLO/ISD Blue Accelerators Platform for Sustainable Ocean Economy

The Institute for Sustainable Development of EPLO has been established with the aim to support all forms of Sustainable Development and the implementation of the SDGs, through policy, best practices, capacity building, training and research. Sustainable Blue Economy falls within its mandate, and this field is a key development sector for the European Union and the rest of the world, with the European Commission supporting Sustainable Blue Economy, and with an updated Action Plan of the Atlantic strategy Group.

UN launches new initiative to fight COVID-19 misinformation through ‘digital first responders’

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has announced the launch of Verified, a new project intended to make up-to-date and accurate information regarding the coronavirus pandemic publicly available. The website will provide unbiased science, solidarity, and solutions for those who have been affected by Covid-19.

The initiative, which will be led by the UN’s Department of Global Communications, comes at a crucial time for communities fighting to overcome this global crisis. It will also contain hope-inspiring content about acts of humanity, global cooperation, and migrants.

The Organizational Committee of the International Conference "Circle the Med Forum" which will take place on 9 and 10 November 2020, as a digital event, organized along with the Circular Economy and Climate Change Institute of the EPLO the first online debate on "COVID-19 and climate change: A tale of two crises" which forms part of a series of monthly virtual debates on different pillars of the Circular Economy.

The first online debate took place on Monday, 11 May, 2020 at 16:00 (Athens time) and 15:00 (Brussels time).

Press freedom critical to countering COVID-19 ‘pandemic of misinformation’: UN chief

UN Secretary-General António Guterres reinforced his support for impartial news media outlets as misinformation regarding Covid-19 continues to proliferate. He also praised journalists who fact-check their stories before publishing them or discussing them publicly. Freedom of the press plays a crucial role in modern governance and will remain critical for countering this “pandemic of misinformation.”

Shaping the Future of Europe

In view of the upcoming “Conference on the future of Europe”, to be launched on Europe Day - 9 May 2020, the European Public Law Organization (EPLO) has decided to establish a “Working Group on the future of Europe”.

Its mandate will be to gather views and positions of the EPLO Member States, generate a dialogue within the Organization and prepare position papers on selected themes related to the key challenges the EU is facing and to the further steps of European Integration.
