Costa Rica expresses solidarity with the people and the Government of the Peoples of Republic of China over the industrial explosions which took place in the port area of Tianjin

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses sentiments of solidarity towards the Honourable People and the Illustrious Government of the People’s Republic of China for the human and material losses resulting from the explosions which took place in Pinhai, in the city of Tianjin, in north China’s largest commercial port.

Costa Rica joins the expressions of solidarity towards the families of the 114 victims and 70 missing persons affected by this disaster, which took place on the 12th of August and is considered one of the worst industrial accidents to occur in China in recent times.

Furthermore, Costa Rica expresses its concern over chemical substances which have been released into the atmosphere and calls upon the international community to continue developing preventative measures relating to the use of toxic industrial chemicals, amongst other substances.
